What is the Summer Internship Programme?
The Department of Conservation (DOC) Summer Internship Programme offers tertiary students with an interest in conservation the opportunity to develop skills and gain experience that complements their course of study.

Past interns have worked in varying roles in GIS, Marine, Legal and Organisational Development and have come from different educational pathways.
DOC internships depend on suitable work programmes and available funding.
Interns are paid during their internship.

Vacancies open in early September 2012 for summer internships. Watch this page for an update.
The programme runs from November to February.
How interns are supported
Interns are supported during the programme by:
- A supervisor who provides you with your project outline, encouragement, constructive feedback, advice, knowledge and effective learning opportunities.
- A mentor.
- An internship coordinator who provides you with support during your internship.

To be eligible for an internship you must be:
- A New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, or hold a valid work permit.
- A full time student at one of these universities:

- University of Auckland
- University of Waikato
- Massey University
- Victoria University of Wellington
- University of Canterbury
- Lincoln University
- University of Otago
