Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve

The ocean surrounding the Poor Knights Islands, off the east coast of Northland, was established as New Zealand's second marine reserve in 1981.

Kauri snail

Once widespread through Northland, the kauri snail now has a limited distribution in parts of Northland and on a few offshore islands.
