Monitoring

Monitoring is a vital part of our work at Tūhua, it allows us to demonstrate and measure changes in the reserve over time. Two different types of monitoring are done, giving us a breadth of data to work with.

The positive results from 2011 monitoring have coincided with an increase in DOC patrols inside the reserve and a public education campaign working in conjunction with the major local fishing competitions. This coincidence makes illegal fishing more likely to have been the factor limiting the successful recovery of reef fish in the reserve prior to the increased patrols.
