Draft South Island Kākā Captive Management Plan 2010-2020

The draft South Island Kākā Captive Management Plan, 2010-2020, has been prepared after comments were sought from captive holders and other stakeholders. The results of this consultation are summarised at Appendix 2.

Kākā
This draft plan is now being circulated for formal consultation with the captive holders, industry representatives, iwi, and stakeholders.
Once comments are received they will be analysed, and where necessary the plan will be amended.
The plan will then be submitted for approval by the Lead Conservator for captive South Island kākā who is the Conservator, Otago.

Summary
The overall goal of the Captive Management Plan is to support South Island ecosystem restoration projects, by providing captive-bred South Island kākā for release into the wild to establish viable self-sustaining populations.
