The objective of this consultation round was to enter into a dialogue with the community about a marine reserve at Mimiwhangata and to gather information.

The submissions provided valuable insight into how people use the proposed marine reserve area and how they might be affected by it.

We received a lot of useful comments. Particularly interesting is the myriad of ways people currently use the Mimiwhangata area for recreation and enjoyment. Many submitters also commented on the proposed marine reserve areas and their associated boundaries.

Overall, the submissions have given us a clear signal that there is solid support for the proposal in the community. However, it was also evident that fishers are concerned about the impacts of a marine reserve at Mimiwhangata.

The quality and number of submissions received reflect people's interest in the Mimiwhangata marine reserve proposal and marine conservation in general. We thank all the submitters for taking the time to share their views and concerns with us.
