Toroa Award - Coastal Otago schools conservation award
This DOC and Otago Peninsula Trust award for Coastal Otago schools is now open for nominations. We are looking for environmental action projects, undertaken by students, that support conservation in their community.

Eligibility
The Toroa Award is open to all schools (Year 1-13 and early childhood centres) in Coastal Otago Area (which is Dunedin City, Clutha District, and Waitaki District south of Waitaki River and inland to Duntroon).
2011 winners
Last year's winning project was Conservation Pathway Kaikorai Valley College. Teacher Dr Simon McMillan has involved his school and numerous community groups and agencies in a long-term project to enhance the environment of Kaikorai Stream.
Runners up were:
- Mosgiel Central Kindergarten for "Our sustainable journey".
- Tahuna Intermediate School student Clair Caird for her science project investigating the impact of visitors on wildlife at Sandfly Bay.

You can self-nominate, or nominate a school, class, student or teacher. It's a good idea to talk to the teacher before completing a nomination.
Entries close at noon on Wednesday 15 August 2012.
