Whitebait Connection

The Whitebait Connection programme was developed by Stefan Seitzer and Vince Kerr. The programme is under the auspices of the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust.

Between 2000 and 2004, the Department of Conservation received funding for a conservation awareness programme including the delivery of new initiatives to increase partnerships, involvement and build capacity both in staff and communities.

The Whitebait Connection programme fitted the criteria and was one of the programmes in Northland Conservancy receiving funding to help support the development and later delivery of the programme.

Over the years, the programme gained momentum, celebrated many successes, and is now independently run under the auspices of the Nga Maunga ki te Moana Conservation Trust (From the Mountains to the Sea). The programme is supported by DOC and other agencies, schools and tangata whenua.
