Fees & bookings
To order hut passes or tickets:
There are no fees for park entry. Fees are charged per person, per night for the use of huts and campsites and vary depending on the facilities and services provided.
Maintenance of backcountry huts requires a lot of resources. Your fees help keep huts available for public use. Pay your fees before your trip by purchasing a Great Walk Ticket, Backcountry Hut Pass or Hut Tickets from a DOC visitor centre. Tickets are sold in units of $5 for adults and $2.50 for youth.
Purchasing hut tickets and passes
The Backcountry Hut Pass, Backcountry Hut Tickets, Great Walk Tickets, and serviced alpine hut fees can be ordered by phone, fax, email, post or in person from DOC Visitor Centres nationwide. Hut tickets are also sold by some other retail outlets.
Bookings
Bookings are required all year for Waikaremoana Great Walk (via Waikaremoana Visitor Centre), Abel Tasman Coast, Heaphy and Rakiura huts and campsites.
Bookings are required peak season only for the Tongariro Northern Circuit, Whanganui Journey, Routeburn and Kepler huts and campsites and Milford huts. Camping is not permittted on the Milford Track.

For phone or fax bookings contact the DOC Visitor Centre noted in the hut list for that region. DOC Visitor Centres nationwide can make hut bookings on your behalf.
North Island huts requiring bookings
The following huts must be booked in advance:
- Cape Brett, Peach Cove, Lane Cove and Motukawanui Huts in Northland
- Pinnacles and Crosbies Huts on the Coromandel Peninsula in Waikato
- Rimutaka Forest Park booked huts near Wellington.
- Powell Hut in the Tararua Forest Park from 1 November 2011 to 28 February 2012.

Fees are charged per person per night, unless stated otherwise.
Fees may differ between peak and off-peak seasons. Peak season is 1 October - 30 April (summer) and off-peak 1 May - 30 September (winter) although these may vary in some places.
