Plan & prepare

Camp carefully

Do your share to ensure that campsites remain enjoyable, safe places to stay. Be considerate of the rights of others for quiet enjoyment of the natural environment.

Keep your campsite tidy, minimise harm to the environment, observe local requirements and only take pets where it is permitted. Plan to leave no trace of your activity.

Campervan/motorhome users

Be responsible when emptying your campervan toilet and always use a designated dump station. View the Ministry of Tourism dump station guide.

Remember:

  • Do not leave valuables in your vehicle. Unfortunately theft from car parks is common in New Zealand
  • Insect repellent for wasps and sandflies
  • A bag for your rubbish
  • Sunscreen and a first aid kit
  • Your own fuel stove and spare fuel
  • Your tent!

Safety

Follow the Outdoor Safety Code:
1. Plan your trip
2. Tell someone
3. Be aware of the weather
4. Know your limits
