Tracks & walks on the Kauri Coast
Three clear, blue, rain-fed dune lakes, with no rivers or streams flowing in or out, and white sand beaches surrounded by gumland and wetland. Location: Located 35 km north of Dargaville.

Known for its extensive dune systems, the Pouto Peninsula also includes vast areas of wetlands and bush. It's also home to several threatened species, including the New Zealand dotterel. Location: The Pouto Peninsula is located at the entrance of the Kaipara Harbour, south of Dargaville on the west coast of Northland.
DOC's first Mainland Island in Northland, Trounson Kauri Park is a 586-hectare reserve featuring an impressive stand of kauri trees. Alert: Track upgrade operations from 1 June to mid August 2012. Location: Trounson Kauri Park is located in western Northland, 40-km north of Dargaville.
Waipoua, and the adjoining forests of Mataraua and Waima, make up the largest remaining tract of native forest in Northland. Alert: Kauri dieback has been found at Waipoua forest. Location: Waipoua Forest lies on Northland's west coast, between Dargaville and Omapere.
