Changes to weather will affect conditions in the backcountry. Always check the latest weather report metservice.co.nz before you venture out and be prepared to change your plans if conditions are unfavourable.
Your safety is your responsibility. Make sure you plan, prepare and equip yourself for any trip into the backcountry. To report any safety hazards or conservation emergencies call DOC HOTline - 0800 362 468. For fire and search and rescue call 111.
Note: This notice only reports on changes that differ to what is stated in brochures and on the website. Other tracks, facilities and services in Marlborough are operating as normal.
Queen Charlotte Track
- There are windfalls on the track between Anikiwa to Torea Saddle (nearest the Torea end), all are passable.
- DOC staff are spraying weeds between Torea Saddle and Kenepuru Heads. Signs will be in place.
- Wasp numbers are starting to build up. Carry antihistamine if you are allergic to their stings.
- The track's opens for mountain biking.

Mt Richmond Forest Park

Mt Duppa Road - this road has been reduced to 4WD vehicles only and is very narrow in places.

Boulder Stream Hut (grid reference : Topo 50 map sheet BR25, E1611206, N5386812), has been removed from its site at Manuka Island, Mt Richmond Forest Park.

Wakamarina Track: Access via Kiwi Road (Northbank) is closed. Access in the Northbank is via Bartletts Road.

Maungatapu Road is closed. For more information contact Nelson City Council, phone +64 3 546 0200.

Right Branch Wairoa Hut has been removed and the tramping track in that valley is no longer maintained.

Access to Saddle Hill, Zig Zag and Pukatea tracks in Mt Richmond Forest Park off Central Road in Hira Forest are closed due to forestry operations.

Park access roads - in Blenheim, this info is displayed on Northbank Road just off SH6. For all access roads into the park check the Plan and prepare page for the park.

Huts and shelters removed as agreed in the National Recreation Opportunity Review are: in Kahurangi NP - Loveridge Hut, Haystack Hut, Rolling Shelter. In Nelson Lakes National Park - Upper Glenroy Hut and Prospect Shelter. In Abel Tasman National Park - reclassification of Moa Park Hut to Moa Park Shelter. Tummil Hut moved to the top end of Lake Alexander, NZ Topo50-BR27 grid reference E1655010-N5377848, and renamed Lake Alexander Hut. Right Branch Wairoa Hut and Boulder Stream Hut in Mt Richmond Forest Park.
