Northland alerts

The following alerts are currently in place in Northland:

Kaitaia area

Te Paki and North Cape. DOC is controlling possums in Te Paki and North Cape areas from April 2012 onwards. Warning signs will be placed immediately prior to the operation starting. Cape Reinga Coastal Walkway. Track upgrade work 31 January - 30 June 2012. The track is open but if you approach an area where contractors are working please make your presence known.

Bay of Islands

Urupukapuka Island. Major upgrade of visitor facilities is in progress. All tracks on the southern end of the island, and Sunset and Cable Bay campsites are closed from Monday 13 March 2012 until further notice. Urupukapuka Bay campsite is open.

Harrison Scenic Reserve Walk. Track closed until further notice due to severe slips.

Kauri Coast

Trounson Kauri Park Walk. Track upgrade operations from 1 June to mid August 2012. Sections of the track (one at a time, starting with Section 1) are closed to visitors while work is carried out. The remaining sections of the track stay open.

Trounson Kauri Park campground will stay open throughout the operation including the track leading from the campground to the main track.

DOC is carrying out the work to help mitigate the Kauri dieback (PTA) problem. The upgrade includes the construction of boardwalks, the replacement of culverts, and the aeration of the track.

Mount Tutamoe Track. Track closed until further notice due to logging operations.

Waiotemarama Waterfall Loop Walk. Track closed until further notice due to a slip

Brynderwyn Hills Walk. Forestry contractors working on the track - Cove Rd to Cullen closed every day, Cullen to Artillery Rd is closed all days except Sunday.
