Summary
In the author's words, the New Zealand Wars were not just historically important, but were a huge demonstration of passion and commitment. The sacrifices that were made, the terrible events that occurred, the action and heroism, and the blunders, occurred in familiar landscapes around us.
The important historical and archaeological landscape of the wars is now coming under great pressure with rapid changes in land use.
This paper discusses the 'urgent need' to consider what parts of this historic landscape we may wish to preserve for the future.
